This privacy policy tells you what to expect when SCI (The Steel Construction Institute) collects personal information, and how that information is used, stored and managed. This policy applies to information we collect about;
SCI Websites
The privacy policy of the SCI websites is intended to respect the privacy of all website visitors to the extent permitted by law. This privacy statement is intended to inform readers of the ways in which these websites collect information, the uses to which that information will be put, the ways in which we will protect any information users choose to provide to us, and the way we manage such data. There are two types of information that these sites may collect during visits: cookies, and information voluntarily provided by users.
Where an option is provided to Register or Login to the website, e.g. to access information that is not available when browsing the site anonymously, it is the user’s responsibility to ensure that this option is not available to other users of their computer.
SCI's websites make use of Google Analytics to allow analysis of site usage. Google Analytics makes use of first-party cookies to anonymously and in aggregate report on usage, and visitor behavior patterns, to allow us to find out things such as number of visitors to various parts of the site. This information is only processed in a way which does not identify any individual.
Cookies.
Cookies harvest pieces of information stored by your web browser on behalf of a website and returned to the website on request. This site may use cookies for two purposes: to carry data about your current session at the site from one web page to the next, and to identify you to the site between visits. If you prefer not to receive cookies, you may turn them off in your browser, or may set your browser to ask you before accepting a new cookie. Some pages may not function properly if the cookies are turned off. Unless otherwise notified on an SCI site, we will not store data, other than for the two purposes noted above, in cookies. Cookies remain on your computer, and accordingly we neither store cookies on our computers nor forward them to any external parties. Unless otherwise notified on an SCI site, we do not use cookies to track your movement among different web sites and do not exchange cookies with other entities.
Information voluntarily provided by You (the website user).
In the course of using an SCI website, you may choose to provide us with information to help us serve your needs. For example, you may be asked to register or login to parts of the site to access various information, or you may send us electronic mail (through a mailer or a web form) to request information. Any personally identifiable information you provide will be used only for the purpose indicated.
Requests for information will be directed to the appropriate SCI staff member for a response, and may be recorded to help us update our site to better respond to similar requests.
Marketing material
The SCI uses a third party provider, SendGrid, to deliver marketing material such as, Connect (our monthly E-Newsletter), Membership Updates, Technical Updates, Publication Updates, Training Updates.

Delivering SCI Webinars
The SCI uses a third party provider Webex to deliver SCI webinars. Where Chats/ Q & A are activated during a webinar, once the webinar is complete the SCI do not save these. For more information visit https://www.webex.co.uk/
Publications
The SCI uses a third party software RUBI CRM to record publication sales and download information. The system collects information on the users; a contact phone number, a billing and delivery address. These will be stored in the system to enable the processing of the order and enable SCI to observe sales trends which will be used to enhance the publication offerings, and ascertain member usage.
When registering with the book shop site users will be asked to create their own password, which is never accessible by SCI. The information the system stores about the user is accessible by the user who can amend their own information at any time. Training courses, events and webinars
The SCI use a third party software RUBI CRM to record registrations and where relevant take payments for courses, events and webinars. The system collects information on the user; a contact phone number, a billing and delivery address. These details will be stored in the system to enable the processing of the registration and to further contact the user with details of the course, event or webinar the user has registered and/or paid for. SCI will use the data to observe topic trends to enhance course, event or webinar offerings. For members SCI will ascertain SCI member usage.

Payments
The SCI Information webportal uses SagePay and Paypal to enable users to make payments for such items as; publications, courses, events and webinars. When a user agrees to make a payment, depending on which payment method is chosen, the user is directed away from the SCI site and payment is made in a secure environment. Payments taken over the phone. Where sensitive cardholder data is handled by the SCI and its employees this is securely protected against unauthorised use at all times. Access to sensitive cardholder information such as PAN’s, personal information and business data is restricted to SCI employees who have a legitimate need to view such information. Any sensitive card data that is no longer required by SCI for business reasons is discarded in a secure and irrecoverable manner.
Steelbiz
To view the SCI technical resources on Steelbiz, the user will be asked to register and subsequently login to the SCI Information Portal, this allows identification between SCI Members and Non Members, and provides appropriate access to resources. User details are stored on the RUBI CRM system, The user can view the details they have provided to the site and make changes to any details at any time. Advisory Desk
A user may contact the SCI Advisory Desk service via a webform, email or phone. Details including; name, company, address, contact number and email may be required. For SCI Corporate and Sole Trader Members these details are checked against the RUBI CRM system to confirm membership and free entitlement to the service.
For non-members details will be checked against the RUBI CRM to identify if the user is a member and SCI will respond appropriately, depending on the enquiry type. For more information on the RUBI CRM system visit https://www.cmis-uk.co.uk/
Some data collected may be used to ascertain membership usage or to identify trends whereby SCI will enhance the knowledge disseminated.
Questions asked by users and answers provided by SCI experts are recorded, the question and answer may be published if the question and answer is pertinent to ensure safe steel design. This information is published in a way that does not identify the user at all. For any enquiries made by a user that is an SCI member the information recorded may be supplied annually to the relevant Member Contact. This will enable SCI to demonstrate the usage of the membership benefits.
SCI third party websites
SCI designs and/or hosts websites for third parties. For details of the data management for these websites view the relevant website Privacy Policy.
SCI produced software
SCI produces software for a number of third party clients. As part of the registration process for each software we record various specified pieces of data, including name and email address. For downloadable software we are notified each time the software is run, with a record made in our Software Users’ Database. As part of the registration process users are informed that this information and recording is used to ensure that they will be automatically informed when software updates are released, and that should they choose to ignore an update which we know to be safety critical, we can contact them directly. We also record which software version is being used and on which PC platform. This information is used by us to help resolve any technical problems in running the software.
Job vacancy applications
For job applications made via the SCI website or a recruitment website please contact reception@steel-sci.com for a copy of the Employee Privacy Policy which will detail the management and handling of data regarding any application.
Managing your data;
SCI will not retain the information you provide any longer than necessary for normal operations. If you are registered with the SCI Information Web Portal you can access and amend the data you have provided to us and review your information and Opt-in options for receiving SCI information. You can also ask the SCI to remove your details at any time.
SCI will not assume you wish to receive future SCI marketing information such as SCI services or products. If you have Opted-In to receive further information/marketing material such as; Training, Publication or Technical Updates, SCI Newsletters or SCI Product information, you will be able to unsubscribe from any such information you receive, by managing your subscription profile.
SCI will contact you annually and ask you to confirm that you wish to continue to receive information and/or agree for us to keep your contact details. If your decision is not to remain in contact with SCI we will delete your information.
SCI will never sell, exchange or otherwise distribute your personally identifiable information, except to the extent required by law.
